Murraylands South Australia
The Murraylands
The Murraylands is a region named same as the river that goes through it. Following are some of the activities you may wish to engage in while in this region. You will find it quite a good idea and a departure from the norm to hire out a house boat. It is called a house boat as it a place where you can stay as in a hotel but it is made to float on water. Call it a floating hotel. You will definitely enjoy the feeling of being gently drifted as you sleep or relax in your hotel.
Another way to make use of the magnificent Murray River is to take a river expedition. This is a cruise in which you will spend two nights.
You depart at eight in the evening of the first day enabling you to see nocturnal animals in their natural habitat. You will be served dishes that are typically Australian.
Before the expedition starts, you will be briefed on the places that you will go to and some of the thing to look out for.
Also visit the Murray Bridge where you will find the Squatters Antiques shop. The shop stocks ancient valuable wares that include sideboards, enamel wares, kitchen cabinets and many other household items. The last place I would recommend you visit while in Murraylands is the Mannum dock Museum. You will find amazing pictures that sequentially show the development of the Murray River. Originally The River was an inland sea bed which over the years developed to what it is today.
The other interesting pictures to view are those that tell the history of the aboriginal people. First there are those that show them as gatherers. Then show their eventual development into trading and boat building.
